Objects of desire (and where to buy them)

Welcome to my new regular post ‘Objects of Desire’.

Each week, I will be sourcing my favourite interior objects from around the internet and telling you where to find them. All items are available online or in stores at the time of posting.

One of my favourite past-times is browsing online and in magazines, to see what’s new in the world of interiors. I’m not picky about where I shop, by any means… most of the items and objects I own are from charity stores or the holy temple that is TK Maxx. However, now and again, I like to treat my house to something fancy. I like to convince myself that it balances out because of all the DIY and bargains that I have gathered over the years. It totally does!

Anyway, my house deserves it…

Unfortunately, buying a new cushion or vase usually snowballs into an entire redecoration of the house. Not this time. This time I am getting it right first time (let’s pretend I didn’t fuck up my first attempt at the bedroom. Okay?) The object will fit the room, the room won’t change to fit the object.

So, instead of pining for the pretty things, and to save me from going bankrupt, I’m going to be showing them to you guys, as way of therapy. I. WILL. NOT. SPEND…

Objects of desire

One:  I LOVE this Diagonal textured stripe Cushion, £35.00, from  Oliver Bonas. The chunky ‘boucle’ texture softens the strong line of the grey diagonal stripe. The perfect mix of comfort and style.

Two: Beni Ourain style rugs and cushions have been popular for the last few years, however this Grey and White Pure Wool Cushion, £44.50 from Holly’s House, mixes it up a bit with the soft grey colour palette. I want.

Three: The Loscan Flat Weave Kilim Rug, £299.00 from La Redoute, would give a nice bit of graphic interest to a simple scheme, without distracting the eye too much. And it’s a decent size for the price!

Four: I love the hand-made feel of the Rikki Tikki Just Retro Ceramic Vase, £22.00 from The Scandinavian Shop. The mix of matte and gloss looks great with the vintage style scratched pattern.

Five: Of course, if I was buying the above, I would want it’s little fat sister, the Rikki Tikki Grey Inner Glazed Vase £18.00 from The Scandinavian Shop. A big bunch of eucalyptus leaves would look great in this.

Six: The simple retro styling of the Alba White Base Table Lamp, £95.00 from Oliver Bonas is perfection. Nuff said.

Seven: If you don’t mind looking a bit weird, the Gunmetal Fisheye Mirror, £125.00 from French Connection would make a fantastic alternative to artwork on a wall. Its not massive at 60cm but I still reckon it would be great over a fireplace. It’s also available in a cleaner nickel finish if you’re not a fan of the aged look.

And there we have it. My first therapy session is complete. The information is out there and I feel much better for it…

I definitely haven’t just bought two things from it…
