Designsixtynine’s Top 20 Vases and Planters From Around The Web.

So, you’ve bought the faux flowers and surrounded yourself in gorgeous greenery.  But that big ole’ banana tree is looking pretty pissed off with his plastic pot and your hydrangeas are horrified at their basic-bitch vase. NEVER FEAR! Here are my Top 20 Vases and Planters to sort you out and keep your foliage fabulous.

Top Twenty Vases and Planters

  1. This H&M Green Glass Vase would look great with a single branch of foliage, or a big exotic leaf. At 32cm, it’s a decent height for £17.99.
  2. Another H&M number, in a gorgeous bright blue glass. This shorter style (18.5cm) with the wider neck would suit a packed bunch of flowers or greenery, rather than single stems. This would look ace with some bright yellow tulips flopping over the sides. Low Glass Vase, £12.99.
  3. This brass Ukku Lattice Vase, £24.00 is available through Curious Egg, a Scottish based company which curates and sells artisan products. Their stuff is amazing, with an ever changing stock. This is part of a range of co-ordinating vases with this, the largest, standing at 20cm. A few single stems would work really well, all grouped together.
  4. Another Curious Egg product, the Ana Vase, £22.00 is a stunning sculptural piece. I can say this because I bought it. This is really just for single stems, but WOW! It looks ace. It’s a good size too at 25.5cm.
  5. IT’S A BLOOMIN HORSE!!! I actually LOVE this Gold Metal Vase, £24.99, H&M. Not to everyone’s taste but I reckon this would look pretty cool in any setting as it is just so quirky.
  6. For the eagle-eyed amongst you, you may have spotted this Habitat Trina Vase, £25.00, on my bedroom mantlepiece. It was a christmas present from the parentals, and I love it to bits.
  7. Another Habitat beauty, the Jaffall Iridescent Ceramic Vase, £20.00, is just such a lovely shape.
  8. The Toulouse vase, £22.00, from Curious Egg has a lovely traditional looking feel, and has been finished with  gorgeous layered metallic bronze and graphite glazes. At 30cm, this is a decent height too. Would look lovely with some ferns or soft frondy plants.
  9. Back to glass for the last of our vases, with the Hotel Grey Glass Bubble Vase, £18.00, Dunelm Mill. The soft cloudy effect created by the bubbles would disguise the ends of artificial flowers, if you’re that way inclined. A lovely handmade quality, giving a very informal feel.

Planters

Top Twenty Vases and Planters

  1. Yay for H&M! This Gold Metal Plant Pot comes in three sizes, this, the largest is only £12.99. Its still quite small at 16.5cm tall, but has a simple, clean shape with a lovely brass finish.
  2. If polished brass isn’t your thing, this Bahne Oxidised Effect Gold Metal Vase, £14.95, from Homearama, via Trouva, might be more like it. Much less formal and has a lovely hand made quality.
  3. Another Trouva find, the House Doctor Grey Ceramic Plant Pot, £20.00, from Rose and Thorn, has lovely organic feel with it’s soft glazed texture.
  4. A bit more glamorous than the rest, the Luxor Glazed Ceramic Planter, £24.99, Homebase, comes in various sizes, the largest being 36cm tall (priced here).
  5. The Livorno White Garden Planter, £12.24, Homebase, is suitable for indoor or outdoor use. At 24cm, it’s suitable for larger plants and is a good size for scaling up the tiny pots that floor-standing faux plants seem to always come in. This is great value for a really nice looking product…I may also have bought this one too. Oops!
  6. I love the texture and colour on this Dunelm Blue Ceramic Plant Pot, £10.00. Asda has a very similar pot for £8.00, in a very retro olive green. It doesn’t appear to be online though.
  7. If you’re looking for something wee to display your succulent in (ooh er!) then this Ceramic Retro Planter, £19.50, Not on The High Street, is very cool. Expensive though at £19.50 for a 10cm tall pot. Ouch!
  8. I can highly recommend these Ikea Sinnerlig Plant Pots as I have heaps of them. They’re only available in black, but they have a matt finish which could be easily painted. At £4.00 for a 14cm high planter and £7.00 for 25cm , you can’t really go wrong. Mix up shapes and sizes and you’ll look effortlessly stylish.
  9. Not On The High Street do some ace planters, but some of them are a bit on the pricey side. I love this Stoneware Plant Pot and it’s handmade feel, but at £22.95 for a 13cm tall pot, this is on the upper end of the price scale.
  10. Both 10 and 11 are Butterfly Home by Matthew Williamson at Debenhams, and both are on sale! Yay! Both gorgeous colours and patterns, these would look great together. Navy Ceramic Plant Pot, Was £10.00, now £8.00.
  11. Large Green Ceramic Plant Pot, Was £12.00, now £9.60.

That’s really just a small selection of my favourite vases and planters from online sources. Although I quite often go back to the same sites for product ideas, rest assured that I am in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned and that all suggestions are entirely my own and a reflection of my own taste and style.

If you have managed to read this far, then please feel free to leave a comment… I only recently realised that folk were unable to comment, due to my own stupidity. This has since been rectified.

I’m really not up on this new-fangled technology…

Have a lovely week!

  1. Hello Malcolm, from “Down Under”!
Being someone who loves to renovate, (just finishing a Holiday House at the moment), I just love your blog.
I have a great friend/daughter in Aberdeen and someone sent her your blog as she was restoring her front door also, so I got it and voila, here we are!
Actually, it is funny as when i was was looking at your selection of containers, i also fell in love with the Ana!
It’s a small world, but i would love to buy one and bring it back to Australia.
I leave for the UK next Monday and am meeting my Aberdeen friend, Sherri, in 4 weeks at Oban for a couple of days.
Is there any shop that you can tell her to get one for me, or where i can order from and have sent to her home?
Loving the plans for the extension- you will be blown away when you demolish all that old crap out the back!
Cheers – Janette Davies – Tasmania

    1. Thank you Janette, for such a lovely message. It’s great to hear how word spreads and am delighted it has made it’s way to Tasmania! I can’t wait to get started on the extension and blogging each stage…also getting to discover the history of the house as we do it!

      The company I bought the Ana Vase from is a fantastic wee Scottish company based in Perth, called Curious Egg. They are an online company and have some gorgeous stuff. My delivery arrived 2 days after I ordered it and their service was great. Here’s the direct link to the vase;
