 2017; A Busy, Brilliant Year

2018. It’s mid-January and I still can’t get used to writing that. Happy January to everyone! (because it’s way too late to say Happy New Year!) I’ve had a bit longer away from the old computer than I had planned, but it’s given me a lot of time to sit back and think about what has happened over the last year and what I would like to happen ‘moving forward’.

It has been a MASSIVE year for me. This time last year, DesignSixtyNine was just a dream; a web page sitting dormant, waiting for me to pluck up the courage to click ‘publish’. I could never have guessed what would happen over the coming year; 4 appearances in Apartment Therapy (check out the bedroom here and the livingroom here) an appearance in Swedish Elle Decoration (here), a home tour by the fantastic Topology Interiors (here) and an Amara Blog Award! (here). Not to mention all the exciting offers and projects that have followed. It’s been an unbelievable year.

To top it all off, just a few weeks before our 1 year birthday (I know!!!) we make a surprise appearance on Domino!! (here). What an amazing honour to be included in their top IKEA hacks.

2018; Moving Forward

I really hadn’t expected for DesignSixtyNine to take off so fast. I had ‘hoped’ that someday it might, at the very least, be recognised by an established website or magazine, but to be given so many accolades so early on…well, it’s made me have to think really hard about direction, and where to go now. So, how do I move forward?

Well, in 2018 I am hoping to bring you a LOT more original content, including instructional ‘How To’ DIY’s, interior styling tips, colour palette inspiration, furniture makeovers, a MEGA IKEA hack, and the full process of our (not even started yet) kitchen extension. Oh, and I’m sure you’ll all be glad to hear that the bathroom should be blogged very soon too.

There will also be some fun collaborations and a few more planned appearances out with these pages. All very exciting.

The truth is, I have no intention on being all big and fancy. I enjoy the blog the way it is… I just want to be able to do more of it. Dat sound okay to you?

Back soon with some of my latest projects. Meanwhile, my much loved Morris of Glasgow sideboard has finally been upgraded to the living room for a little change about. It’s amazing to finally have a drawer to throw our crap in!

  1. Hello again, Malcolm
You are the top page at Apartment Therapy today! Congrats.
Well done on the Amara award.
Waiting patiently for the bathroom reveal 🙂

    1. Hello Libby! I was so excited to see that I had made it back on to AT. Not as excited as I was to win the award mind 😀 Bathroom reveal should be up within the week. There was a bit of a delay…which has pretty much been the whole story of the bathroom!! All finished now, thank goodness! Malcolm xx

  2. How exciting! Exciting for you to get all the attention, exciting for me to see your style and color selection tips. Reading along, I often frown at a particular choice, thinking I know better, then am amazed at how very, very well it works with everything else.

I don’t think I can put together a room the way you do. I’d love to learn how to do it in a way that looks like me.. If you were taking requests, I’d ask for something like Angie’s “your style” parts of her blog, You Look Fab.

    1. haha! It’s so funny you say this because I often do the same with some of the blogs I follow! I have plans to launch a series of styling posts, so hopefully this will help readers to find their style and to ‘curate’ their home in a similar way.

  3. Congratulations on a fantastic 2017! It’s great to see that you plan to pour your ideas and talent on the blog. That’s what makes it fun!

  4. Happy New January to you too Malcolm – congratulations on a brilliant 2017, I look forward to reading more this year, Fi 😊
