Bedroom plan reveal

So, it’s not a finished room yet, however, it is a firm plan!

Sometimes when we decorate, we don’t have a totally clear vision, let alone plan, of where we want to end up…and that’s fine! As long as you’re totally convinced of your starting point, whether it’s a paint colour, flooring, furnishings or even just an object that sums up what you want. You should only go with the things that you really love. Creating a home that reflects ‘you’ should be a nice natural journey of collation… from various sources, rather than a manic swoop of the high street. That’s just my opinion mind.

Not everyone needs a plan to follow….but I do. My problem is that I can get very easily sidetracked by nice shiny new things. Quite often, shiny new things that don’t go with anything that I currently own. I need to keep focus. Everything doesn’t need to happen at once, but an end goal stops me from veering off-track.

I. Need. A plan.

Bedroom plan

I suppose the starting point here was the floor and fireplace. After it’s short-lived paint job, I knew that I wanted to take it back to the original brown tile. The surround, I wanted dark, but was happy to go with a change of colour.

Bizarrely, the colour we picked was an exact match for the existing curtains! Bonus!

Bedroom plan

I’ve never ‘loved’ the headboard, it was really made as a ‘this’ll do for now’ but Brian likes it so we have compromised and decided to paint it.

!!BIG KNOB ALERT!!

In my head, I had a clear idea of what I wanted for the wardrobe hardware, which, bizarrely, Brian somehow managed to pick out in B&Q. I hadn’t even spotted them. They were EXACTLY what I had pictured. He’s spooky/weird like that, which is great when you choose stuff together.

I know that I want some sort of free-standing piece of furniture for where the wardrobes used to stand. Probably a tallboy style piece. Preferably vintage…but scabby enough that I have no guilt in painting it.

I also feel that I want to soften the place with textiles. The renderings are just to get the idea of where I’m heading but I still think they’re too austere. It’ll be interesting to see how far I stray from the plan…

**UPDATE!! since writing this, We have found a scabby tallboy! Yay! I know exactly what I want to do to it, so watch this space for the before and after. Oh, okay, here’s the before…

But you’ll have to wait for the after!
