Five Things I Love This Week #11

After a very hectic week preparing for students’ returning to college, sitting down to type up my five favourite things is an absolute pleasure. In between the crap weather, we have been blessed with glorious light, which is the reason I couldn’t resist posting image five, even though I should really wait. Ah well.

My ‘I Can’t Type Fast Enough’ Facebook Find

Have you ever spotted a bargain or a one-off item and practically decked everyone out of the way to get to it first? This is how I felt when I saw this vintage oak chest on Facebook marketplace last weekend. I fell in love with the carved front and gave no second thought to asking to buy it. I couldn’t have typed faster and I’m glad I did as it turns out that an awful lot of people wanted it. It cost £50, which is a bit more than I’d usually spend… but look at it! It’s solid oak, beautiful, and worth every penny. The lady we bought it from told us that she had originally bought it as a toy chest for her now grown up son. She was so lovely, which made the whole buying experience even nicer. I’ve no idea where it’s going to live yet though. They say ‘it isn’t a bargain if you don’t need it’. I say ‘shhhhhh. Yes it is’.

Teeny Tiny Ceramic Vase

I have been following the work of ceramic artist Yuta Segawa on Instagram for a good few months now, with every new post, falling deeper in love with the beautiful shapes he creates. There is an elegance to his work that captivates me. The glazes are mixed by Segawa himself and only go to emphasise the stunning form of each piece. Each vase is individual and there is a rainbow of glazes available. Half of the fun is in choosing which one to buy. After much deliberation I chose this soft aqua shade, in the larger sized vessel. I am in love. I think I may be at the beginning of a collection…

St Palladius Church, Drumtochty

Nothing to say, just a fairytale building, in a beautiful location. Not so much interior inspo, but I just had to share. The pattern of those arched windows reminded me of my new (vintage) oak chest.

I’m Not Weird…

Okay, so I understand that these may be ugly to most people, but I am fascinated by the colours, patterns and textures that you can find in these glass pavement (window?) blocks. Lockdown wanderings gave me time to appreciate some of the things that I would otherwise overlook. Each square is it’s own little artwork. Time and nature has corroded a functional, industrial object, turning it into a piece of art. I especially love the replacement metal panels in the bottom image. Have you ever stopped to appreciate something that you would usually pass by?

The Sunlight In Our Bathroom

It may be due to the sun getting lower in the sky, but I have only just noticed the light that streams into our bathroom from the stair window in the afternoons. Our newly made-over bathroom that is…

Full reveal coming soon, along with the secret of how I turned brass into bronze…

Have a lovely weekend folks xx
