It’s been a very busy week at number 69. In between working and… well, working, we’ve managed to make a start on fitting the kitchen units. There is a mega IKEA hack in the process and it is coming together rather nicely. For the first time in SIX YEARS we have a proper kitchen work surface!
Of course I can’t leave you hanging without a little preview, so here is the first of my five things I love this week…
The Kitchen Build Has Begun.
If you cast your mind back to Five Things #3 you may remember I showed you a style board for our kitchen. Well, the plans haven’t changed so you can use your imagination to see how this will look in few months time…
We will be adding lots of our own touches to give this kitchen a bespoke look, at a fraction of the cost of a ‘real’ one.
My Bargain Cushion Haul
About a month ago, I spotted these cushions in John Lewis and immediately fell in love with both designs. I did not love the price tags on either of them. They were way out of my budget at £55 and £40. Last week, they were reduced to half price. Yay!
No. Still too expensive. Gone are the days of fancy cushion purchases for me.
Skip forward a few days and the thought of these beauties never being mine got the better of me. A final glance before they go off to their forever homes wouldn’t hurt, would it?
SOLD! The woven geo cushion was reduced even further, to £13, and the Blue Corner Stripe cushion was £10. I have checked and these are no longer available online (sorry!) but the Aberdeen store had loads, so it’s worth checking to see what your local John Lewis has in store.
Charity Shop Lamp Shade
How cool is this lamp shade?! Bought for £3, I fully intend to turn it upside down, paint it a neutral colour, and turn it into a sculptural vase.
‘Things’ of the Year.
Last week, Dulux UK launched the ‘Colour of the Year’, much to the dismay of many an interiors aficionado. The outcry at the choice of colour was ridiculous to say the least. Many of the comments and online reactions that I saw, were extreme and downright rude. Everyone has an opinion but when you have such a strong reaction to something as meaningless as ‘colour of the year’, you have to start questioning yourself. By all means have an opinion… but remember your manners. Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t mean it’s bad.
The colour is ‘Neutral Ground’. Personally, I love it. Of course I do. It’s neutral. It’s actually a pretty perfect neutral, working well with most colours as either an accent or the main focus. Much to my delight Topps Tiles has just announced their Tile of the Year 2021… and it works perfectly with ‘Neutral Ground’. The Zellica Bronze Tile has a rich glossy finish, inspired by traditional Majolica pottery. I LOVE this tile and I’m gutted that we have already bought ours for the downstairs cloakroom. It’s not often that a promotional image sets my heart pounding but when I first set eyes on this one, my heart sang. I’ll take it all, thank you.
Outside
Ah go on. Have another sneaky peek.
Have a great weekend folks xx
