Replacement Slipcovers; Comfort Works Sofa Cover Review

This post is an honest and personal review of a replacement IKEA sofa cover for a Nockeby 2 seater sofa, very kindly sponsored by Comfort Works. I will only ever do these posts if it’s a product that I really think deserves your time. I think this one really does.

Brian and I have this weird thing. Quite often (more often than we should be comfortable with!) we will talk about something, for the ‘thing’ to happen, or appear, within the next few days. Unfortunately, recently, it’s been celebrity deaths. We may not have been directly responsible for the demise of poor Bella Emberg, but it has to be said, it was a strange coincidence.

So, when Comfort Works got in touch to say they would love us to review their replacement slipcovers (for, in our case, the IKEA Nockeby sofa) we were stunned. For it was only the previous evening that we had been looking up replacement slipcovers online…. and that was the first time we had even mentioned it! Spooky, huh?

As a blogger, I get quite a few opportunities to review products and to blog about them. More often than not, I turn them down. Even some quite exciting ones. It’s really not what I want the blog to be about. I’m no salesman. However, when the product gives someone the opportunity to transform their own furniture, stop waste from going to landfill and save money… well, that’s different. Now, I’m interested.

Why Are We Wanting To Change?

One of the attractive qualities that sold us the IKEA Nockeby sofa, other than the shape, was the fact that the covers are removable. It would give us the opportunity to change colours and fabrics, should we feel the need. Great. Except that the IKEA sofa cover options were limited and the other fabrics weren’t that nice.

Don’t get me wrong, we still really like the original cover… but it was looking tired, and careless chocolate consumption had taken its toll. Ew.

Our snack habits were not conducive to respectable living. Our sofa deserved better.
Comfort Works, our hero.

Of course, when the lovely Felicia from Comfort Works got in touch, we said yes. Okay, after a good look through their website, we said yes.

What struck us both, was the variety of fabrics to choose from. We immediately saw about 8 or 9 fabrics that jumped out to us. With us two, that rarely happens. Usually, it’s one strong YES …or nothing. We are picky picky people!

We narrowed down our choices greatly, by deciding to go for a complete change. Something totally different. You may not know this, but we both actually really like colour! So, we went for colour. Yay!

We went for the  Nockeby IKEA sofa cover in Kino Navy.

A few short weeks after placing our order, our replacement slipcovers arrived. Now, these beauties are coming from overseas, so we were very surprised at how fast they arrived.

Don’t you just love a nicely packaged product? This pleases me.

From the minute I opened the drawstring bag that they came presented in, I knew that we had made the right choice of fabric. It just made me so happy to see. And relieved. It made me feel relieved too. The colour, being a black/teal mix, reads as a lovely inky shade. Mmmmmmmm.

Now for the fit…

I honestly can’t remember the original covers going on as well as these did. Maybe it’s the fabric, maybe it’s the manufacture (which btw, was inspected closely… and I am so impressed with. These are REALLY good quality.) but the cushions slipped into their fancy new outfits with ease. No excess of fabric. A perfect fit.

The frame was the same. Slipped on and attached with Velcro in all the same places as the original, the . Another perfect fit.

As the covers come folded, there were some crease marks along the tops and fronts of the arms. These fell out with a light pass of a steam iron (over a tea towel, just in case!).
Comfort Works had very kindly added two of their gorgeous new throw cushions into the package, which you can see the sofa styled within these images. Again, great quality and lovely fabrics… one soft pink velvet and the other, a tan leather. We both love the colour choices too Comfort Works, so thank you!!

Final Thought on Comfort Works Replacement Slipcovers…

We really wanted to achieve a different look with our new replacement slipcovers, and I am so glad we took the opportunity to do so. Not only because they look amazing, but because I think it goes to show how big an impact one choice can make on a room. The sofa size or shape hasn’t changed, but it has completely changed the look and feel of the sofa. It looks more tailored and I would say, a little less bulky. Colour has a huge part to play in the scale of furniture, not just the physical but the visual elements are important. You can do this with replacement slipcovers.

Being as I am, I will undoubtedly style the sofa up repeatedly with cushions and throws over the next few days, and carry the blue up into some of the shelf accessories, but one thing will be for sure… this IKEA sofa cover is now a NO CHOCOLATE ZONE!! (Although these bad boys can be washed on a cold wash! Just don’t tumble dry, BRIAN!!)

  1. Malcolm, I’m loving the masculine chic feel of your space – definitely going to start digging into your portfolio for more ideas for my own home. Question – did you need to pre-wash or steam these covers? I’m leaning toward purchasing a set of ‘Kino Denim’ in their heavy duty line and I’m not sure if going directly from box to sofa frame would leave wrinkles. Does the fabric have any lining on the interior side?

  2. Yes! As beautiful as your living room was before, these make it even better. One small request though: could you add a photo taken from the bay window, to show the other side of the room and that end of the sofa?

  3. Love the new covers. I think the blue colour is actually quite striking and adds a special something to an already beautiful room. Love following you Malcolm, you have great talent. Regards Lyn.

  4. Hi there,

I am working with Valspar Paint who have started a new campaign: TRUST YOUR COLOURS. It’s all about embracing your colours, pushing beyond boundaries and releasing your personality.

Here is the Instagram page – https://www.instagram.com/valsparpaint/?hl=en

As part of the campaign, we’d love to embrace men doing the painting and DIY and your profile is brilliant for it.

Could you let me know their price to work with us on a 3 month basis, exclusive to Valspar Paint brand over other paints, content being used for ads, 3 posts on the Instagram feed and 3 stories?
    – We would love to know how this compares between video / stills.

    Thanks,
    Sarah

  5. I love the colour you chose for your new covers. A new cover for a sofa can completely change the aspect of a room, and stops the expense of having to buy a brand new sofa.

  6. I’m glad to hear there is more than one company selling replacement covers for Ikea sofas. We recently got some for our Karlanda sofa from Bemz. Ikea stopped selling covers for it years ago, so that’s another advantage of these companies.
Thanks for this post, I wouldn’t have known about Comfort Works without it.

  7. Your home looks amazing Malcolm 🙂 I love the contrast of the “tan”…sure their is a more romantic description of that colour…cushion and the colour of the settee. Love the notion of “careless chocolate consumption”, I would probably add secret to that notion.

    You inspire me.

    Kathy
