  1. A simple chenille cushion gets a bit of an edge with a textural shift. I love the subtle angle and feel that perhaps I… I mean ‘my sofa’ needs this in it’s life. Grey Chenille Cushion Cover, £29.99, Zara Home.
  2. I instantly fell for the sophisticated charm of this handsome fellow, the minute I clapped eyes on it. We are lying on the sofa together as I type… Patterned Cushion Cover, £6.99, H&M Home.
  3. …and to my other side lies this beautiful black and beige weave. A perfect partner to bring together pattern and plain. Jacquard Weave Cushion Cover, £9.99, H&M Home.
  4.  HK Living is one of my favourite homeware brands and the cushions are always bang-on. This beautiful woven pattern would look great on it’s own or part of an achromatic scheme. Black White Aztec Weave Cushion, £45.00, Trouva.
  5. Velvet plains are a timeless way to add luxury and warmth to your sofa or bed. H&M have a great range of colours at fantastic prices. I’ve gone for this large Cotton Velvet Cushion Cover, in a beautiful rich Terracotta shade. This is part of the H&M Classics Collection and costs £17.99.
  6. Did you know? the crewel-work front panel on this Arcade Cushion, £40.00 from John Lewis, took 4 man hours to complete! Did you care? Well, you should! All I know is that it’s super pretty and bang on trend.
  7. Another velvet beauty, this time in the most gorgeous vintage rose shade. These dusky shades work so well with most interior styles, yet seem so difficult to come by. Grey Chenille Cushion Cover, £25.00, Trouva.
  8. Good old Argos/Sainsbury’s has come up trumps with this Crewl Cushion in navy for only £12.00. Team this with plains and a larger bold print, to add interest to your sofa.
  9. I am LOVING this colour combination. Teamed with this bold pattern, it makes for a bang on trend accessory. Pochoir Cushion, £34.00, West Elm.
  10. Another colourful geometric with an Art Deco vibe, the Jackson Cut Velvet Geo Cushion, £25.00 from Next, makes a statement all on it’s own. I love the colour palette on this. A great starting point for an interior scheme.
  11. Simple, textural, affordable… perfect for any scheme. Enough said. Carla Natural Zig Zag Cushion, £12.00, Dunelm.
  12. I have this, I love this, I can never decide which room it should live in. Cotton Zig Zag Cushion, £23.99, HK Living, via Trouva.
  13. Another Argos bargain in the shape of this gorgeous Kanso Crewel Cushion, £16.99. This abstract pattern has a cool ethnic feel that would work with both traditional and contemporary styles.
  14. If you’re not into pattern and want something to break up the monotony of plains, this simple velvet stripe cushion will do just that. I love the informal feel of the stripe. Orange And Maroon Stripe Hand Painted Cotton Velvet Cushion, £22.50, from Ian Snow, via Trouva.
  15. We end where we started. I couldn’t help but show this variation on the first Cushion Cover as it is such a versatile piece. A subtle way to add depth to your scheme. Grey Chenille Cushion Cover, £29.99, Zara Home.

Cushions are by far the easiest and most affordable way to transform a room. I have an embarrassing amount of them stashed in the attic (and under beds, in drawers, cupboards, suitcases…) and like them all too much to throw them out. Play about with the ones you already own before you go shopping. You never know what cool combo’s might come together… then add in a new statement piece to refresh the whole look.
