Five Things I Love This Week #6

Tiny Table Makeover

Apologies for the delay in this week’s ‘Five Things’, the week seemed to run away from me and before I knew it, it was Thursday and I only had ‘Three Things’. Well, after my bout of flu, I felt that I needed a little project so took on a quick makeover of this little table that I bought about a year ago. It is tiny and cost only £5. I thought it would make quite a cute plant stand, as it really is so small.

The makeover was quick and simple. I gave it a coat of ‘Abusson Blue’ by Annie Sloan, which I then rubbed back with wire wool before I dulled it down with a coat of black wax. I let it dry in overnight before buffing to a soft sheen.

Like a fancy crown, I then topped the table off with a new marble top, which is actually a chopping board from TKMaxx! I took the measurements of the table with me, in the hope of finding something roughly the right size… then I found this one, which fits perfectly! Yay!

You may have noticed the Anemone and Eucalyptus in the little brass vase… these are the latest of my floral paper creations. I have to admit it’s a lengthy but enjoyable process. See my earlier examples here.

Wire Plant Stand

Following on from my tiny table/plant stand makeover, we have my latest purchase. Just as I think that I’m totally over mid-century style, Matalan throws in this little beauty. It was a ‘yoink, I’m having that’ moment. Available in black or white, this coated wire planter and stand costs £14. The pot inside is my own, bought from a car boot sale ages ago and is a perfect fit. I opted for the white version of the planter as I may end up spray painting it… would you expect any different?! Although I do love the white.

Vintage Magazine Inspiration

One of my favourite ways to find interior inspiration, is to look to the past. These vintage Golden Homes magazines are FULL of inspiration. Aside from the DIY projects (covering everything from smocking your own cushions to building concrete steps) the most inspirational element, for me, is the retro imagery. Just check these homes out…

I love the modular storage systems in these kitchens…

…and in this bedroom. I also love the contrast of styles and textures. Definite inspiration for our own home.

This hallway wouldn’t look out of place in Elle Decoration 2020.

Colour Palette Inspiration

Inspiration doesn’t always come from found images. More often than not, the best inspiration can be found in every day items… like these market bought eggs. I love the muted colour palette with the forget-me-not blue shade of the packaging.

Dining Table Inspiration

I love the simple design of this Zara Home side table… but I wouldn’t want it as a side table.

This would make the most gorgeous dining table for our new dining space and I’m pretty sure I can knock one up, myself. This will definitely make it to a blog post in the near future as we have just decided that this is the perfect table for the look we want. YAY!

Have a great weekend! xx
