Revamp, Restyle, Reveal; The Guest Bedroom Makeover Begins!

For those of you who follow DesignSixtyNine on social media, this will not be new news. To those of you who don’t; I’M TAKING PART IN A REALLY EXCITING THING THAT STARTS TODAY!! Well, yesterday…I’m late writing this. Oops!

Last year, I followed the very exciting new blogger challenge ‘Revamp, Restyle, Reveal‘ on Instagram, watching ten superb interior bloggers makeover a room in their home, over the course of four weeks. They were, of course, sponsored by some top brands, which sounded like an absolute dream!

Well, guess what? That’s right!!… it’s now this year, and I”M taking part!! I’m living the dream!!

When the lovely Lisa Dawson of LisaDawsonStyling.com got in contact and asked If I would like to take part, I was thrilled! There wasn’t a moments hesitation in saying yes. Looking at the room to be decorated, maybe there shoulda been! More about the room later though.

What’s Involved with Revamp, Restyle, Reveal?

Well, pretty much what I said above. Ten bloggers, including the two fabulous hosts; Lisa Dawson and Bianca Hall (Frenchforpineapple.com) each choose a room of their home to be renovated over the course of four weeks. This year, we have nine well known companies sponsoring us; from interior accessories to furniture, lighting and home appliances. It’s crazy! And it starts today. I’m not even ready!!

One of the things I love about Revamp, Restyle, Reveal is that the hosts encourage people to play along with it. Using the hashtag #revamprestylereveal, instagram followers undertake their own projects and show the world their progress too. It can be anything from a room makeover to a shelf reshuffle… anything that refreshes your home. It’s a great motivator for getting a job done! AND, there are prizes from the sponsors too! An even better motivator!

But don’t worry… for those of you who aren’t on social media, I will be keeping you up-to-date right here. Each week there will be a cringe-tastic video uploaded to Youtube too. How modern!

So….. The Room?

Revamp restyle reveal guest bedroom before

There really was only one room that we could possibly use. Being the only room left to decorate (because the others are going to be torn to bits!), we said yes to finally renovating the guest bedroom. This space has pretty much been a storage room since day one, even when guests have stayed. A bed amongst stacked furniture. It has long been overdue an overhaul. These images are from my first viewing of the house.

Unfortunately, it’s not the most straightforward of rooms to renovate. I have a built-in cupboard to cover over (in the pic above), a wash basin to remove, and an old fireplace hole to block up.

Now, I can already hear people say “don’t block the cupboard!’ Well, tough. It’s going.

The shelves are about four inches deep and the space is blocked part way up by the chimney from the old fireplace. It’s a complete waste of space. Don’t panic though…I’ll be keeping the door and mouldings for use elsewhere.

The Revamp, Restyle, Reveal Plan.

There is no pretty drawn plan as yet, because I just haven’t had the time. Plus, it’ll spoil the surprise! However, there is a mood board…

I’ll leave you with this just now, until I get my room drawn up… my plans are still awfully fluid at this stage!!

It would be great if you could follow along! 🙂 xx

  1. Hi Malcom
Really loved your lounge make over ! Can I ask what the chair and covering was from Ikea and the original colour of your sofa ?

Also do u really love the new blue sofa colour to the original or do you think you might swap over to the original in the summer maybe ?

    1. Hi there. Thank you very much. The chair was the Mellby but is no longer available. I think the before colour is in the images? I can’t remember what the colour was called, but it is still available. I definitely won’t be swapping back any time soon 🙂

      1. Hi Malcolm
Many thanks for your prompt reply – really appreciate that ; just wondered if the original sofa cover was a light grey tone or more of a taupe – its hard to tell from the photos !!

Noted that the chair is no longer available – that’s a shame . Enjoy !!

    1. I would have loved to do this but it’s filled in halfway up with the chimney breast. Sadly it really wouldn’t be attractive or that functional. It isn’t deep enough to hold a decent book.
